#GivingTuesdayNow is a global day of giving and unity that will take place on May 5, 2020 as an emergency response
to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19.
The Portland Community Free Clinic has been directly impacted by the corona virus. When a staff member in our building tested positive for COVID-19, the PCFC was shut down for two weeks. Then, starting April 6th, the PCFC re-opened with limited hours: 2½ days/per week. Even so, the demand has been great: patients have been calling because they are anxious, feel sick, need reassurance, or just need their routine primary care–check-ups, prescription refills, and more. Our staff and volunteers have worked tirelessly to meet their needs, even creating a telehealth program “on the fly” so that patients could be seen without being physically present at 103 India Street.
It has been a trying time, but also rewarding. We’re not ICU doctors and nurses and thankfully, we don’t have to worry about ventilators. But even so, we are on the frontlines and are grateful that our skills and knowledge are being put to good use in this very difficult time.
To do our work, the PCFC relies on the generosity of friends and neighbors in our immediate community and beyond. All funding for the PCFC is raised by our non-profit 501(c)3 partner, the Friends of the Portland Community Free Clinic. For #GivingTuesdayNow, the Friends is asking for your financial support. Donations made on May 5th will be matched (up to $2000) by two kind-hearted colleagues. Take a moment to make a donation and your impact will be doubled through this generous gift.
In the past few weeks, the PCFC has received donations of N95 masks, gloves, and cloth masks. We appreciate everything that we have received and it is being put to good use. But financial support is what pays the salaries and keeps the doors open. Please consider a donation, of any amount, on this global day of giving. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
