The Friends of the Portland Community Free Clinic are seeking new board members, particularly someone with accounting/financial experience who would serve as the new treasurer of our organization. The mission of the Portland Community Free Clinic (PCFC) is to provide accessible high quality healthcare at no cost to low-income uninsured individuals, primarily in southern Maine. The PCFC relies on a roster of volunteer providers – physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, and mental health counselors – to provide care to its patients. Clinic staff provide a smoothly operating and cordial environment in which volunteer providers can practice quality medicine and establish a rapport with their patients.
Established as a 501(c)3 organization in 2013, the Friends of the Portland Community Free Clinic supports this work through strategic planning, raising funds and building public awareness. Currently comprised of 11 dedicated members representing medicine, nursing, health policy, accounting and lawmaking, the Friends is seeking new members available to serve a three-year term on its volunteer nonprofit board.
The ideal treasurer candidate has a reputation for sound decision-making, has prior experience in accounting and finance and is willing to participate in board responsibilities including monthly zoom meetings and reporting on financial activity. The treasurer role does not require any bookkeeping. Duties include reviewing bank statements, reconciliations, financial reports created by the bookkeeper, making recommendations and reclasses as necessary. The treasurer also files IRS form 990 as well as some other regulatory reports.
